Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA)

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA)

Program Overview

Interested in learning more about your body composition? The Maitland Valley Family Health Team has a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) machine on site, which is one way of estimating your body composition. It measures body fat, muscle mass and water weight.

How it works

A very weak electrical current flows through your body and the voltage is measured in order to calculate impedance in the body.

The test takes about 30 seconds to do and works by standing on the machine, similar to a weight scale and holding the electrodes in your hands.

Before the test you will have your weight and height checked and the Registered Dietitian will walk you through your results.

Appointment Details

If you are a rostered patient of the Maitland Valley Family Health Team, you may self-refer to the dietitian on site. You may also be referred by your Health Care Provider.
